Philosophy – “Why Art Must Be Beautiful” – 10/18/2025

An expression is a confession. A confession turns into art because art will be taken seriously if it can’t be laughed at or ignored. It’s the distinction between tragedy and comedy that’s also the difference between beauty and ugliness. Someone who decided to turn their tragedies into hideousness will require a great deal of patience to see into their heart for what tragedies they still harbor. Though, their story might now be one of bloodshed, and its the bloodshed they’ve caused that’s heavily obscuring their truth.

Someone who had undertaken acts of atrocity to confess their tragedy still have a tragedy, though who is taking it seriously? They’re a monster to many people’s eyes now. Those who view them as this will want to lock them up in a cage, spit on their name, and call them every obscenity in the book. They chose to express, to confess to cause something hideous to occur. They caused this wall to be raised before what is now desperately asking for anyone’s concentration to look past what they’ve done to see what their tragedy still is. It will take a rare individual to know where to start looking, and an even rarer individual to finally find it.

An expression, a confession will make something beautiful that can be taken seriously in an instant. What art does when it draws someone’s attention in to understand its seriousness is no different than someone who decided that their story was worth describing than acting out upon. It’s not an expression or a confession that’s comedy or worth ignoring of its seriousness. It’s an expression or a confession that is being taken seriously because its details are being presented without harm or ugliness being caused. What’s beautiful is given attention to it for these reasons because no one who takes it seriously enough will neglect it. A mother doesn’t neglect her child if her child is too beautiful to perish. An agency that protects endangered species does the same, out of consideration of what cannot be ignored.
