Poem – “Leveling Me” – 7/10/2023

Unstable. Let the current
flow faster, out from
your once-consuming eyes.
Foundational. A loosened star
brings the void closer,
brings the absence
a little farther, after I have
collapsed into space.

Unable. I am able
to count what goes missing.
A unification, a singularity
that streams in a lightless,
sightless motion.
Your eyes are closed,
your beauty has drawn close
to sceneries I have burned,

as I am, now,
wading through ashes,
floating atop a bottomless,
fathomless lake
where reflections are present
in shattered mirrors.

You grew to know
me, when I took your hand
to drain twin tears
from a deformed glance.
I wanted to tear away
everything, all before
you went away
into the sheltering gray.

I wanted to save myself
before love became a memory,
before sounds became an echo,
before kisses became
just a stain.
