Poem – “One More Day” – 7/23/2023

Once more
to see the sun rise,
from your darkened eyes.
One more time
to hear your heartbeat,
in this faded warmth.
I am stilled, wondering when
you will run back,
returning to these arms,
over again.

I am here, waiting at a station,
hoping to receive your air
flowering at your lips –
those petals I’d surely kiss.

One more day
to dance in your shadow.
One more time
to forget our crime
of being passionate
among fervent sunshine.

I’ll hold on,
I’ll let sand solidify.
I’ll keep you near
far apart from fear.

I’ll speak those words
we both had lived for,
during teeming moonlight
we brought grace within sight.
