Poem – “Your Fear of Betterment” – 9/5/2023

I fought, along
a dividing line,
replacing your covered form
that bruised itself in the sun.
Are there more places
to run, like there are faces
for your scenery
to shun?

To reveal you,
unveiling you
among blinding light
brings retaliation from you,
bringing yourself back
to a forgiving night.

Shadows bandage you,
smear apart your tears
from a wasteful expression.
A lone sight, marveling
all of our anticipation,

as it will be forever yours
to commit yourself to ruin.

I fought, rewinding a clock
through bottomless time.
I felt its weight, dragging
my feet across your shore.

Was it to be your anchor,
or an inevitable disconnection?
