Poem – “An Abhorred Direction” – 2/7/2024

I walked beyond
your limping shadow,
hoping to bring back
everything that made us
dance to a rising sun.

You were heading there,
to that cliff that overlooks
where we took our first breath,
adding life to our lungs
through a kiss.

I thought you were remembering
those subtle seconds of pleasure,

but you were dismembering
yourself from our message.

I walked beyond
all darkness you left behind,
for these eyes to examine.

I walked even further,
with a dire wish in mind,
but nothing more to notice.
