Poem – “Abandonment’s Words” – 3/31/2024

Who faced you the wrong way?
We were children, in our touch,
transparent in our promises,
loving in our aptitude
to filter through our fingers
what was meant to last.

But you are crossing over,
after a defeated existence
left you feeling lonely.

You recognize what to uncover
beyond another beaten door,
where there's something
less concealed, less smothered.

A kiss could not reconnect
these wires of ongoing sounds,
because you have muted
both hearts into fatality.

Strings of passion, playing amply
were performed for musical serenity.
But you are wandering for more,
towards unknown years,
without a trail of tears.

I cannot follow
if that means to swallow
this pain, in an instant.

I'll look on
from this silent balcony.
I'll watch that ocean
from extinguished candles.
