Poem – “Reviving the Night” – 4/9/2024

Tracing you,
outlined under these signs
of a sunset clashing with
silver breath, caught under
clouds of a fading winter.

Because I want to remember,
even if that means to rekindle
a pain that should surrender
to coming warmth,
healing's veil.

A cloak of stardust,
a blend between
wisdom and the reach
for something else, other than
what did more to abandon
than to teach.

A dove's feathers
of a wedding's white,
for I should marry
what heals me to burn away
that which prolongs a night,
overgrown with repetition.

Exhaustion fills me,
from a plate to its heaviness.
I am battling a curable illness,
while reviving its symptoms
with kisses against frost
upon walls, where what's drawn
is that terrible fever,
love's eternal cost.
