Poem – “Smooth as Marble” – 10/8/2024

Wash it down,
whatever bitterness
is ever left, as it cannot
remain when we
are better to be
joined like twins.

I must know
what artisan crafted you,
to be this surge
of nighttime glimmer.

You are not to be
anymore distant than
where you stand.
I will admire
this elevation of radiance
that I've desired,
while it bleeds from you
into the setting sun.

Under the rising moon,
you've been burned into
this etched atmosphere.
You've long been meant to
steer the world's wealth
of eyes, to a form,
returning everyone
from departure.

You've long been standing
for two worlds to connect.

You are here, as I am handing
what I name to be a promise
of care, as almost anyone else
might break this display.

Do accept what I offer,
as I will bring you in
for a lifetime's worth
of appreciation.
