Poem – “Bare Union” – 10/15/2024

I've been counting
your breaths, among seconds,
lost in this moment
where a dose of tranquility
keeps us buried.

For your scars,
your memories
to go blank,
I must insert
a promise
into your open heart,
being as vulnerable
as your body.

Untying knots,
leaving behind what will
not ever be erased.

I will return
to greet your ghost,
or who you are.

We must believe
that nighttime is not
as divided from its partner,
unified with daylight's
immaculate garb.

We must fold
the pages of our stories
into an eternal pause,
remembering how
desertion was avoided.

We will love,
savoring the days
for their hours,
capturing our hours
for an infinity.
