Poem – “Undressed for an Occasion” – 10/22/2024

Cloaked, while soaked
in searing monochrome.
Somehow, I've welcomed it,
as you remain swollen
along with the dimming sun,
draining whatever remains
from your blissful eyes.

I have crawled, to remove
this heart, a devil's ruby
that's been set aflame
to undo, to burn away
needless coverings.

To tear into you,
to feed you, as you like to
wonder what I am doing
while you step back,
always on track, to keep
your space in its evenness.

Do not be alarmed,
after I've torn you
garment from garment,
letting limbs sway
like a creaking pendulum
motioning in one direction
more than the other.

I remember when
this once had occurred.
I was a mere shadow
in your undying presence.
Now, I am a guiding light
to cement a purpose.

I've always been meaning
to outrun your fuming fear,
to face all your tempests
before I've come near
to plant a seed, a warm one
in your unfanciful heart.
