Poem – “These Mental Flames” – 10/31/2024

Wrong path to take
means another promise
I did not realize
held too much at stake.

I've dropped stones
for more vain reasons,
as I've nothing left
to keep afloat.
I've long wanted
to drown these pages
that repeat history
etched in sands.

I've sunk just the tears
that make a heaviness,
bled from a heart -
another stone
in the ivory.

Screams come easy
to produce, for the wind
to drag them across
a vast, blue silence.

I've long waved a flag
while seated on a throne
that rots beneath a sun.

Flames decorate nights
in shimmering sparks,
as I sprout memories
with matching light.
