Poem – “Always a Breath Away” – 2/13/2025

You were somewhere,
always a breath away.
You were drifting
on some small piece
of slender hope,
surviving as if
you were living.

Where did you believe
you ever belonged?
I have wished,
during cold nights,
that you will find me
upon my broken knees,
fading into the earth,
with nothing left
to resurrect.

You were sinking,
while never caring
where the wind
will push you.

You might discover
where all the roads end,
filling your spaces
with more darkness,
erasing all traces
until the void is all
you never avoid.

In the color
of a burning room,
I am present,
thinking about you,
building bridges
I cannot cross.

I am homeless,
in a town that's full
of deserted streets.
Not one of them
is the one to lead me
to your call,
to your screams,
to it all.
