Poem – “Love is Long Gone” – 3/15/2025

For this, I've cherished
this ample opportunity
to see the sun rise
even with closed eyes.

For this, I've spent
many a long night
listening to clashing,
disabling heartbeats.

Yet, in the midst
of having known when,
I was always dreading
if it was even my fortune
to be forever blessed
under a guiding ray
of listening light.

I'm left with wanting
to know who or what else
these shivering hands
can hold onto,
while morning regresses
back into an expected
display of blackness.

I've been standing here
at this station, all before
another train rushes by,
dwelling over lessons
I've never learned.

I want to know
why I ever let a heart
get its most tangled.
I've wanted to revive
that pain, if only
to continue to survive
on a lingering whisper,
a faded wish
among stars.
