Poem – “Footprints of Dust” – 4/12/2025

I've been left numbed
to the sounds
of crumbling bridges.

I've been burning
what cannot be rebuilt,
after a final voyage.

I'm hearing screams
that enter no one
else's ears.

I'm tearing seams,
attracting the decay
on all in disarray.

Love once erased
such signs of turmoil.
Life returned
to remind me of
what falls from above.

Just dust, building
beneath these wandering
footsteps, in each
second that captivates.

I am left with leaving
memories like wires,
either to strangle
or to be entangled.

I am here to keep
loosening a questioning
tongue, from a man
who cannot stand
these sounds,

when he cannot stand,
after miles he's crawled.
