Poem – “Tilt Your Neck Back” – 5/28/2025

While you've quivered
for another reason,
settling yourself
into a forever's worth
of imagined darkness,
I've been drawing curtains
to let another world
better us both.

It's not to conceal,
but to reveal
to me, to yourself
your unveiling pathway
from embittered wishes,
to bloodied kisses.

Why wait for this,
when we can smear
our presence
over absence's
darkened glaze?

You stand near,
while I hold your dear,
unearthed flesh,
tasting the droplets
that are loosened
from a heart that fears
only what's real.

Begin to feel
what will be worth
moving towards
after you were always
digging for space,
digging for your grave
as your attempt
to seek grace.

I peel back your skin
to see the rawness
of someone, within.

I see all you dare
to correct, with a mere
extending shadow.

Bless your world,
as I'm here to admire
what you've left behind
in the tears and mire.
