Poem – “A Marriage of Dying Flowers” – 6/24/2025

To pluck their petals,
they’ll feel alive
even at the idea,
for in coming close
you’ll see their time,
one that is coming
to a close.

You’ll see
what they should
have remembered,
during those seasons
when warm weather
causes them to forget,
when rainfall
brings up the colors,
the surges of sensation
they’ll run from.

You’ll see
what they want others
to come to know
about what they have
effectively disowned,
redoing a score,
aligning their tragedy
in one arrangement,
an undying symphony.

You can hear
their faded heartbeats,
those that lost their light
upon their surrender
to their fatal repeats
down the wrong path.

They’ll feel alive
even at the mere idea
of coming undone.

It’s what keeps them
from having to recall
what caused them to fall.
