Poem – “Close Enough to Speak” – 6/24/2025

Closure doesn’t
cure the scars,
even bandage
the bleeding wounds,
among all things
left unattended.

But you were close enough
to be speaking to me,
close enough to provide
some small reminder
of what I already knew.

I had always known
what deprived me
from seeing the truth
too pure to be
embraced, while I
am finding my way
back to the lie.

You were there to tell me
to believe in what’s best,
what’s locked in a heart
as I possess the key
to get it to restart.

You were here to leave
a parting message, a gift
that keeps changing
the more I commit it
to unending thoughts.

You were once
set in jagged stone,
as I remain here
hoping to one day
walk on smooth water.
