I’ve reached the height
of what I can master,
dissolving my heart
into liquid form.
I’ve chased love
into a startling corner.
Love looks back
with fear in its eyes.
I’ve let you in,
I’ve broken you out
of someplace tragic,
deserted in its scenery.
You can’t delete
what’s written in stone.
You can’t wipe away
what burns in your mind.
I cannot erase
your beautiful face
from memory.
Still, you look to
such a fatal opportunity
that surrounds us,
that reminds us
we are both fragile
on an inviting pathway.
There are traces behind,
with black letters to write
into the sands,
upon the shores
we will reach.
