For so long
And without shame,
I have sought destruction,
And have laughed.
For so long
I have not seen the need
To protect
The truly dear.
Because, I had thought of my ego
To be what makes me
As me.
Upon the day
When I looked past myself
To see your eyes,
There was Heaven, burning my skin to dust.
I am weak,
Upon your sight.
And then there’s no more fright
In my form,
In my soul,
In my heart,
For I will protect, and neglect
Myself.
