There’s a light
we must favor,
diving in too fast,
swimming in shallows
to hold a heartbeat.
Subscribe all
to our measurement.
Bury our thoughts
in our field of flesh.
Burn what died
in another lifetime.
Revisit how we deny
there’s more to this.
Fish for fate,
answering our take
on permanence
comes with downfall.
We know what we
breathe in, to release.
We promise to return,
but not to commit.
Around us, this world
has too much space.
It threatens us,
within constant motion.
We sample each other
for our fuel,
for our scents,
basking in the perfume
of yesterday.
