It wasn’t what I
kept running from,
knowing there were stars
even in their output.
I held out fingers
like candles to be lit,
breathing smoke
from lungs long burned.
Neptune has a way
of drowning me,
just as it crowns me
the king of my ocean.
I held out a hope
that ended up smothered
by fervent repetition,
the waves of yesterday.
Velvet waters
surrounded my feet,
echoing words
to stay put.
I knew what I
couldn’t ever deny
upon a pathway
to bring me decay.
Life drifted upon a plank,
sunk with the sun,
drowned me with my
crown made of thorns.
