Outside,
the world
keeps flowing
on concrete,
in careful,
concentrated
stampedes.
The noise
washes away
their sins,
into distraction.
The silence
invites me to listen
to the roars
between the fractures.
I’ve fallen
into desert scenery
where vultures
circle above,
watching for when
I’ll give in.
Cuts are too many
to have become
countless,
as I am unable
to push back
the tide,
to find the source
answering why.
