Poem – “Of Eyes that Hold only Smoke” – Romance – 10/1/2020

Hold your tail,
We have both suffered well
With ease to the morning’s crease
Of a hundred pages to news
Holding words in shallow waters.

Beautify yourself,
Once more,
Playing with fragments
On the floor,
Of your murdered heart.

Hell in you,
Fires cast out
From a frame, about you
Where a painting describes you
In your heated contemplation.

Love can offer,
We can soften
Faces to set the tears
As roads for us to run
With hands that never part.

Can you heal?
Can you steal
A moment, for a thousand more
To the same notes, the same chords?
Smoke of weapons, smoke of guilt.
