Poem – “How to See Me” – Romanticism – 12/7/2020

Wide awake,
Horns out,
With visions of death
Brought slow.

You see the vulnerable me,
The beast of me,
For only you
Can understand these howls.

Many have tried to take me,
Many have tried to drug me,
Many have tried to cage me,
Only you have embraced me.

All sadness, I release
With storms from my broken eyes,
Saves your hand
For the glistening altar.

Oh, I might burn,
Oh, I might tear,
Oh, I might yank,
Do I ever hurt, without you
So keen in my eyes?

The beast in me,
You know.
I bring myself low
To catch tears, falling free.
