Poem – “Never Enough to Save” – Romanticism – 2/14/2021

Whether your lips
Bleed from bruise or kiss,
Drink blood droplet
Or tear,

Kindness cannot imagine
A greater wave
To take you.

To save you
Marks my famous desperation,

Over cliffs
Where my voice cries out

The cruelty where desires bend,
Inside, where sadness stirs.

You will continue
Your bleeding course
Of stains, weeping from your mind

Names of all saviors that left you.
The space for me to crawl
Has stretched me.

Call these bleak droplets
Of blood
Or of fallen tear,
By pain within or pain outside,

That I might imagine your face
Among winter’s tranquil serenity.
