Poems of Pain – #1 – “Those Lifelike Tears” – Romance – 10/9/2020

How much heat
Could I have breathed,
Upon a day in your life
You merely wanted to see
Something else in me?

What a voice that was lost
In a poet of a thousand words,
Each breathed upon the bleached
Page, though whiteness could not remind
Me, to soothe you.

Of all pain,
I wanted you down
On the floor, to see my foot
Upon your neck.
How could I apologize?

What poem,
Too simple,
What single word
Too complex,
Could have erased the tears
That never flowed to my blindness
Of loathing?

Can we sleep
Under the collected clouds,
Shriveling like the infant
In life’s newest birth?
