Poem – “Return to Me” – Romanticism – 12/4/2020

Return to me
When winter no longer sculpts
Trails of broken bark,
Sinew and sadness.

Remnants of ways to humanity
That were never a part
Of deepest humility.

Beneath a sun that never departs,
For it always gleams
A brightness, through our eyes,
In our chests.
Here you shall lay
Under moonlit stars,
Folding a tear against your cheek,
Leaving happiness against the bleak
Bitterness of any night

Too dark.

Return to me,
Loving heart,
For you are but an infant
Without its cradle.

Return to these arms
That shall swallow you
In warmth, unyielding.

I shall leave an ocean
For your crossing.
