Poem – “Unable to Resign” – Romanticism – 2/21/2021

Able to hear the whispers
Blown from kisses
Across a feeble lake,
Full of your tears, you once
Held in broken arms,
Leaking contagion
From your ruined heart.

It is the love,
Purely the love
Swallowed as the bitter wine
With the second taste
Of sweet remembrance.

Compromised memories
As faint petals,
Long broken from the stem,
Carrying still the scent
Of something entrancing.

Unable to resign
With the signature upon
The same line
I drew into your heart
To spell my name,
Written backwards.

As you bleed on, I do remain.
