It’s a trial,
it’s no triumph
upon connecting
this outreaching glance
to your frozen heart.
You lie in dust,
colored only through
patches of rust.
You can’t answer
when I weep
what pain I keep.
It’s been a task
to bury you a second time,
for only brief,
paralyzing glimpses
to float to the surface.
My endurance
keeps me surrounded
with your shadow.
I’ve tried to be silent
among your echo,
inside our knot.
I hope to be able
to effortlessly carry
your weight, without only
a fever to give me warmth.
I hope to convey humanity
without a sudden bolt
of streaking lightning
to send me reeling.
